Dear Supporter,
The past and continuing generosity of people like you has contributed importantly to the success of the Victoria County History of Essex and we are most grateful for it.
It is, therefore, with some reluctance that I seek your help to overcome a crisis that is facing this excellent work of research and record.
The grant from the Essex County Council that contributes the greater part of the funding of VCH Essex was cut severely in 2005. In the longer term we hope to identify new sources of sponsorship by re-aligning the way in which VCH Essex operates. In the shorter term, however, we need your help to prevent the cut in ECC funding from seriously curtailing the current work on Volume XI. Failure to complete that volume will place the whole of VCH Essex's work and reputation in jeopardy. Experience has shown, elsewhere in the country, that when work stops there has never been a revival. That is the seriousness of our present situation.
I urge you to read the Essex Past newsletters available on this website. I hope they remind you of the value of VCH Essex, convince you of the need to ensure its future, and persuade you to give it your additional financial support.
Donation forms are available on-line here for you to print out and complete. As well as sending a donation, please remember the Gift Aid form as that will allow the Appeal can reclaim the tax on your donation.
Yours sincerely,
The Lord Petre, JP
President, VCH Essex Appeal Fund
